EZOO Survival Guide
The line-up for Electric Zoo is epic. There are countless people out there who would like to disagree with that statement, but they aren't focusing on those people who are going to be there. These people are more focused on who ISN'T going to be there.
Sure Armin Van Buuren, Afrojack, Avicii, Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia and many more aren't in the line-up, but so what? There are enough amazing producers in the three days to absolutely melt your mind.
No Armin? Go see Above and Beyond.
No Afrojack? Go see Hardwell.
No Deadmau5? Porter Robinson plays enough of Joel's tracks to get your fill.
No SHM? Axwell is close enough, he'll play all of their songs.
No Avicii? Let's keep it that way. But if you really want to see a sellout go to Guetta.
Who everyone wants to see is up to them. It's entirely opinionated with what/who you like. But my boys and I are in agreement (after weeks of debating) on who we're going to let grace our presence. Honestly you don't have to get there when the gates open, I know that I won't be. These are the producers and the times that we're going to stay to see them.

SURVIVING ELECTRIC ZOO!!!!!!!
1. WATER!!! People drink it... Lots of it... And often.
2. Sunscreen. If you want to look like a lobster that's on you. But I have no intentions to be bright red.
3. Sleep. It's pretty hard to doze off in the middle of Skrillex but if you are running on 3 hours of sleep it might end up happening.
4. GET FACEPAINT!!!!!!! If you don't then fuck you. But not really.....
5. Eat well. Come on people, you're in New York. There is anything that you can ever imagine. If you're eating McDonalds everyday there is something seriously wrong with you, and the people around you won't appreciate the stank.
6. Be with people you know. It's pretty self explanatory.
7. Have a meet up point. When you and your friends get there on Friday discuss where, if separated you all will meet. I know that it could be tempting to lose one of your friends... we all know that guy. But be the better person. Imagine if it was you in the crowd of 80,000 people and you were alone... Shit would be scary.
8. Have a good time, and don't get caught... I know what's up.
9. Overall just use good judgement.

Stadium House Saturday
Finished up the final episode of Mad Men season 5 on Amazon, but not until after I got back from seeing Lazy Rich perform a talented set at Salt Lake City's famous venue, The Complex. When I think of electro house producers I'm thinking Zedd, Mord Fustang, Wolfgang Gartner, Lucky Date, deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Dada Life and Lazy Rich. Those have got to be the top consistent electro house DJ/Producers out right now. Sure, lots of producers make electro house tracks, ie. Alesso's Raise Your Head, but the previously listed producers are solely electro house producers - and damn, are they great at it. It was great to see LR up close last night; here's a camera picture I took up at the front row. Unfortunately, the crowd was on and off in terms of size, but there was no doubt that LR was the best DJ that walked through those doors last night. Playing a few Zedd tracks, most notably Slam the Door which was fun, using Daft Punk vocals over his original tracks, and playing his brand new Avicii remix; As the set went on, he dropped his remix of Porter Robinson's Vandalism, which had people singing. It was a powerful batch of electro house tracks, and LR did a nice job with his buildups. As a 20 year old, with a birthday around the corner in October, I must say that I cannot wait for the 21+ events, especially in Utah, the crowds will be 1000x better. All in all, the show was a good one. Brilliant lights covering the stage, a massive and crisp sound system, and being front row to see Lazy Rich do his thing, makes for a good memory.
My favorite Prog. House duo of the year, Feenixpawl with another banger...
Norman Doray never releases anything mediocre.
Nicky Romero and Calvin Harris have teamed up now; Here's a preview of their newest.
I'm sorry if this has been on the site before, but just found out about this deadmau5 track, and I can't stand it with the vocals (sorry to fans that do!), but I will never be a My Chemical Romance fan, so I looked up the instrumentals for this track, because I love deadmau5' half to the track.
Brand new, Thomas Gold mash up!
Lazy Rich, here he is with his newest Avicii remix.
Kaskade's famous bootleg, "Stars Troll."
Chuckie's show on BBC featured Chris Lake this last Friday, and man did Chris Lake deliver!
Dirty South's newest radio episode.
And finally, another radio show from Thomas Gold for you guys.

Mixtape Thursday
How was your beach season?
I apologize for missing last week's edition. I was stuck in Deerfield, MA. getting feasted on by mosquitoes.
I just moved in to my new apartment on Broad St. First thing I did when I got in to my room is set up my speakers and played some solid house music while I was reorganizing. It's been a lot of deep/tech/chill/ambient/disco house playing through those speakers and this one I have to share with all of you.
It's straight up raw house music.
It's straight up raw house music.
So on move-in day, do what I did. Plug those speakers in, come back here and click play.

Aggressively Progressive: Go Play In The Water
Woah What a breath of fresh air. Back to college. Real life be gone. Time to re fall in love with life again here. Lets. Get. Aggressive.
First is the remarkable Deniz Koyu killing it with the perfect Voval masterpiece. Wynter Gordon Kills it. I get a boner whenever i hear her sing.
For the Bombs of the Re-Mixed Variety
Matisse and Sadko really crush this one. Keep it super upbeat and progressive. the drums are super high energy. I gotta stop confusing these guys with maison and dragen. They are a whole 'nother breed.
Dimitri and Wyman make one of my favorite tracks even better. Its real. and Nadia is a Godess.
For me In My Mind was a let down. I did not like it as much for how much support it got. But for me the Walden mix is the deffinition of on point. Really improves the song for me.
And for anyone who cares this is a minimal song on the top of the beatport charts. It is addictive, and it caused me to download a whole bunch of minimal jams. Love tracks that broaden my horizon.

Brohammer get its in the generation 303 style sound. I cant get enough of it. The builds are really fresh but nari and milani drop the borhammer and my world goes fuzzy
All time favorite Bassjackers coming through with a unreal track. Its their best track since Mush Mush. andddd we all know about Mush Mush.
Feed Me goes back to the "Great Escape from Electric Mountain" Style and I like that. Feed Me Plllleeeeaaassseee rock more House beats!

Stadium House Saturday
Wow! I go back to college in two days. The summer is officially over for me. But no worries. While I'm in my small apartment, every Saturday, I'll continue to give you the house music that belongs in the stadiums; the arenas and the monstrous venues. Today's line up: Preview for Toolroom Knight's Ibiza 2012 mix, mixed by the one and only president of the label himself - Mark Knight, Funkagenda remix that I missed and hoped you did too, Wolfgang Gartner, Kim Fai, and then three radio shows for you listeners that need the music to keep playing ;) Oh yeah, and they're the shows of Eric Prydz, Dirty South and Fedde le Grand ... does it get much better? Maybe seeing them live, so yeah, but this will do just fine I hope.
If you have the money - tell me this doesn't make you want to buy it asap!
I missed this remix, wow this is a tune.
Grant gave you the Girl On Boy, here's Girl On Girl, who thinks the other combinations are going down?
Love this dude's ear for a tune, this track is... different.
Here the radio shows/podcasts as promised. Three amazing producers with equally great mixes.

Funk Fridays Vol. 15
The summer is coming to a close for many of us and so that may mean looking at Friday afternoons with more of a thought of responsibility... wait no sorry I have that backwards. Let loose! Get weird, get wild, but most importantly, get funky:
I had the pleasure of seeing Erol Alkan the other weekend at the Mad Decent Block Party and he was grooving hard until the lightning came and had to rain on the parade quite literally. He also compiles half of Beyond The Wizards Sleeve that is know for their disco style remixes. Check out this little five minute mini mix they did for the wonderful Annie Mac:
Fools Gold has been on top of their game lately signing rising talents, and Sweet Valley is surely one of those examples. With a new EP out it's safe to say FG reeled in some serious skills:
The FatRat has always been a really fun guy to listen to. This remix of "Turn The World On" is surely one of his bigger works yet:
If only this Oiva remix of "License to Drive" was out a few months my summer would be complete:
French Express has been a big name when it comes to indie dance music and they are definitely flexing those indie dance muscles with these three tracks coming from The Estrablishment, Chris Malinchak, and Isaac Tichauer:
Felguk is typically known more for his in your face electro but this record is more along the lines of breaking it down instead of bouncing around. Big thanks to Beth for the discovery!

Throwback Wobbles
Hide ya kids. Hide ya wife. |
These next two tracks are a little old, but many of you probably have never heard them. A dope old track is just as good as a dope new track in my opinion.
"Damaged" (Blinding Lights Remix) by Plummet is from 2011, but the vocals never cease to uplift me.
"Up in the Club" by Terravita is a classic. I've heard it played live many times by other DJ's because it gets the crowd so hyped. Turn up the bass on this one, trust me.

Stadium House Saturday
The house music has been crazy this summer. The festivals have enlarged, the festivals have spread. The Olympics are almost over, go USA Basketball! I swear there ought to be a friendly Olympics amongst the many producers out there. A track contest, quickest produced track etc. Anyway, I'm interested to hear your stories from this summer's gigs. Any thoughts or stories, leave em in the comments section! Although, I've only seen Avicii this summer, thanks to Utah's poor skill of drawing in talented house producers; however, I'm looking forward to seeing Lazy Rich this month - one of the best electro house producers there is. So, in honor of my excitement to see him up close soon, I've added one of his tracks that is finally out on Beatport. one that he made along with one of my favorite producers, Chris Lake. On top of that, I have 5 other tunes I hope bring a smile to your face (including what could be the final single by the mafia we love most). Turn it up loud and party to it - this fine Saturday night.
Hardwell's newest remix - here's a lengthy preview.
My roommate, who doesn't listen to house at all shared this with me just yesterday - I've been behind on my Florence. Love the vocals over this brilliant, simple house tune from Calvin Harris.
Afrojack: My favorite. Even when he does make tracks with Will.I.Am....
Something tells me I mightttt have put this youtube up a long, long time ago. I apologize if you remember it and are disappointed in me putting it up again. It's official, it's available for purchase via Beatport. What A Tune...
Here it is, freshly ripped from Pete Tong's show on BBC Radio 1. The Swedes with the relatively - long - awaited "Don't You Worry Child." It has the feel of a "We Came. We Raved." feel to it, but if it were up to me, I'd demand a better banger for a final SHM track. Either way it's good producing. Enjoy it!

Aggressively Progressive: The Road To Rio Begins, Now
I love the olympics. And I am gonna go and spend time with that. Rio Olympic Village, here I come.
Music/Solvic Triple Jumper Induced Boner time.
David Guetta came out with a new monster release titled "She wolf" sound is very reminiscent of "Metropolis" and Michael Calfan's "Resurrection". Funny because Michael Calfan also released a monster remix to compliment ze original mix.

Funky Fridays Vol. 13
Breaking into the month of August means summer is beginning to be talked about as something that is withering away. I always hate that, it totally undermines the great month August always is. So I say we all live in the moment and get funky shall we?
Fire Flowerz (not to be confused with Firebeatz) has a great electro funk edit of this Herve original "How Can I Live Without You". I really am pulling for Fire Flowers to make their way out of the underground world when they do work like this:
Fools Gold Records just came out with their second installment of Fools Gold Clubhouse which is essentially a fully downloadable EP of tracks from their 'young guns' if you will. The first volume was great and this second one seems to raise to that occasion:
This next record makes me think of Chromeo... or maybe Dean Winters? Who knows, it's late, I'm delirious:
You ever think I could pull off some trap on Funky Friday? Well, I'm forcing the issue cause my man Baauer is in town this Sunday and the old school bassline on this trap track exudes funk. Yes, I know it's short, trap is generally that way. Deal with it:
As we part for the weekend, I salute you with this Fukkk Offf remix of "Quarantine". It teases the line of what is funky because it goes pretty hard but I still include it because it pushes into that funk headbop which is always my requisite:

Mixtape Thursday: Tomorrowland!
So unless you've been living under a rock, you'd know that Tomorrowland was recently held this past week in Belgium. Famous for it's extravagant stage decor, Tomorrowland has grown in to a major player in the festival game. Tomorrowland comes back stronger after each year and this year was no surprise that almost every major DJ in EDM was on stage.
Due to numerous Tomorrowland live sets scattered on the internet, here's a link to a page that has compiled all the live sets in to one single page.
Tomorrowland 2012 Live Sets
Simply click on the link of the set you would like to listen to, you'll be directed to a page with the set and it's tracklist! How awesome is that?! Of course this convenience is courtesy of 1001Tracklists.com
Now start trippin! I dare you. There's enough to last you a month.

Aggressively Progressive: The Eric Prydz Effect
Prydz this past weekend totally changed the way VCHxAPT looks at progressive house. Check it actually he changed the way APT looks at Prog House. It does NOT have to just be a cute piano melody with a chick singing. While i love that shit more than anything, He showed how there is soooooo much more dope shit that can be learned from the different genres like techno and trance. But he was unreal.
So here is my regular old progressive house. But my mission is to find more prydz like tracks to blow your mind right in front of your face. yup.
Love Jason Mraz vocals and The Kids at The Bar really do a sick job blending a electro sound in a progressive track. And I am still a sucker from looping and effects on vocals.
Jason Mraz - I Won't Give Up (Kids At The Bar Remix)
Ever Since Joonas released the terrible unique and wonderful Sahilua He has been on my radar. While take me away does not disappoint it is not the unique and fuego bomb that sahilua was.
Joonas Hahmo, Neea - Take Me Away (Original Mix)
These Next two are straight power Progressive tracks the bass hits hard and the melodies are fresh. Solid B efforts from Pixel Cheese and DJ M.E.G.
These two are just your standard progressive house tracks. When I talk about complacency in EDM this is what I am talking about. Don't get me wrong, They are beautiful but I listen to this shit enough on BPM cmon boys. And Carlo where is he unique flavor from "if you would"!?
Carlo Astuti - The Storm Is Coming (Original Mix)
