Mixtape Thursdays: DJ M2

For our first edition of Mixtape Thursdays, a special feature on DJ M2. He brings us not one, but two mixtapes to get us in the mood for some weekend fun. I had the chance to catch up with him couple days ago and got him to answer some questions for us. But before I go on with the short interview, here's a little introduction on DJ M2.

DJ M2 a.k.a. Manek Mathur is a Trinity alum from the class of 2009. He hails from Mumbai, India and was part of the Trinity squash dynasty throughout his college career. He is currently based in New York and putting a lot of time in the studio to come up with some amazing tracks. He has played at numerous clubs in the Big Apple and was also the resident DJ at La Zarza Lounge.

VCH: What's your current setup?
I currently use the Pioneer CDJ 900s and the DJM 900 nexus. I'll occasionally use Serato but I prefer to use USB when possible.
For my productions it's a combination of Logic and Ableton. The APC 40 is awesome to make my mashups and edits.

VCH: Where and when are your gigs? / Any upcoming gigs you'd like us to know?
I recently gave up my residency at La zarza lounge to focus on the production side of things. I am working hard on becoming better in that aspect. I just have some private parties coming up in May.

VCH: Who is/are your biggest influence/influences in terms of DJing?
I have a bunch of influences. Laidback Luke, Dirty South and Steve Angello are awesome to hear live. Their sets are always full of surprises and the mixing is seamless. On the production side of things I am a big fan of Alesso, Avicii, Axwell and Dirty South to name a few.

VCH: What's your usual routine before going on for a set?
Most of my gigs are in the city and being based in the suburbs my routine is basically driving to the gig. I'll listen to stuff on my car ride over just to get in to the mood.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mixtape Thursdays by DJ M2.
