One of them was Deadmau5 featured in the latest issue of Rolling Stones magazine. Great exposure for the EDM scene. Click here for the article and his video interview. There have been some debate over what he said in his interview and in a post (Title: we all hit play.) on his tumblr but in his response to the feedback he received from the community (Title: look ma! no swear words! :D), I believe he explained himself very well and still managed to get his message across. Kudos to him. Personally, I don't agree with his "we all hit play" post but of course, everyone's post or opinion should be accepted with an open mind.
I believe there is a great separation and difference in DJs who do it for their love and passion in the music and the DJs who are out there to, as Deadmau5 puts it, "cash in." DJing is an art and I think with it's current state, DJing should be traced back to it's roots: Music. I can't tell you specifically what to listen to and what not to listen to, but really, I beg of you to try something new each day. Embrace the other genres and different styles of music that are at reach with just a click of a mouse. Don't follow suit, but stray away from the commercial route that everyone is on. It's not a bad thing to stand out. Lead your friends in to a musical journey of discovery. That last line sounded cheesy but that's how desperate I am to get my message across.
Here's a good article/post/write-up I'd like you to read: Press Play? Hit Start
The writer talks about her the current state of the EDM world and her experience/journey in it. It's another perspective you can look at, don't agree with it just because I told you to read it. Read both Deadmau5's posts and this other post, you're old enough to decide on your own. I believe you'll log off your computer more aware of what is going on with EDM and get more bang out of your buck the next time you drop those Benjamins for your next EDM festival.
So enough of talk, let's get on to what we are here for: Music. Double dose for the week. Two mixes with genres on opposite sides of the spectrum.
On the left side, we have Eric Prydz. "The man & the legend," that's what Avicii called him on his previous Le7els radio show (SiriusXM). Famous for his progressive house prowess, this mix has him on the decks for BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend. With no disappointments, 45 minutes of epic progression in to the journey of house music.
On the right side, we have Dillion Francis. This mix features the grimier (is that even a word?), dirtier, bouncier, crazier... side of electronic music. Get ready for some of that moombahton, trap, electro, (insert whatever genre out there) served hot and right in your face. Remember, embrace the other genres. You won't regret it.
Have a great weekend, enjoy.
