New Beginnings

Tomorrow the new year comes, and according to some, perhaps the beginning of the end. But I also have a new beginning as I ship out tomorrow from the great states to Barcelona. So it's safe to say this is my last American post. VCH will live on in Barcelona but the plan will be to give it a little more Euro flavor to the blog. As for my top ten songs of the yerar? It's pretty tough to narrow my decisions down to ten never mind order those ten so I'm just gonna say that these have no particular order, lets just enjoy the music and the new year comes. (just to clarify I'm sticking with MY favorite songs so there is some bias I admit. I'm sure some of you would love to see some skrillex on here but thats for another time and place to get recognition):

Onward and Upward

As my departure across the pond to España, I get more and more excited in the fact that I will be in quite the city in terms of influence over electronic music. And what better way to vent that positive energy than through a little EP review and some mixes:



Skrillex came out with his new EP "Bangarang". As much as everyone loves Skrill, I was a little bit indiferent about this EP. I thought that this was going to be a really agressive and hard hitting EP; but in all honesty, I find only these two songs (as well as Breakin' a Sweat which I wrote about like a month ago when it came out with those other cool Hyundai sponsored collabo's) worth while:





In other news, fellow OSWLA minion, Zedd, has come out with another mothership mix. This one is an hour and a half long and is tied in together throughout so perfectly. I am always pumped when they give him the hour slot on Electric Area to do his thing like this. May not be too good for me in terms of inducing speeding on the highway but in terms of good jams, these mixes this guy comes up with are very kosher:

R3hab has been clearly very merry this holiday season and has given us a remix of Steve Aoki's signature early track I'm in the House as well as a little preview to his upcoming remix of Far East Movement's record, Jello. Sex, Drugs, and Poison

VCH coming at you with another late night post with a little malbec on the side. Class class class. Last night I was in a blur throwing up perhaps a bit of an overwhelming amount of tracks for one post but the overdosing must continue in order to be properly caught up in the exploding electronic music scene. Every day it becomes more apparent to me how rapidly and how forcefully this genre is taking not only most of the world's youth, but music itself as a whole. This is the future and godammit I love being a part of it. We all are. So with that said... ¡Vamanos a los discos!


Diplo and Datsik are both some weird dudes but that is exactly what makes these two guys so awesome. I'm so glad these two guys teamed up on this new track Pick Your Poison. I put up the original as well as a minimix of the remixes by Detr So literally... pick your poison people:

Winter Break Overdosin' with Viceroy

So I know it's been ages since I posted. Sorry I was too busy procrastinating for finals. Anyways, VCH is back and tonight is an overdose of tunes with limited nonsense in between. A lot of great new music in the EDM world this week so enjoy:

This release of Ohrwurm by Tommy Trash is the only song I will give any sort of description of so you don't feel guilty about ignoring my writing. Anyways, thank god this song got released Monday, I have had it on repeat since then. I was beginning to lose my mind when it didn't get released in November like Trash had initially promised. None the less this song is more addictive than Bayer cough suppressant and it is here just in time for the season of giving:



Actually... I stand corrected, there is one more thing I must say. My man Viceroy just put out a uncontrollably funky and killer remix to the Yelle's track Comme Un Enfant. It makes me want to get to Europe NOW. Unfortunately, my flight out across the pond isn't for another week (but this remix is making me consider just taking a boat there if it means getting there earlier to party). Anyways, show the man some love and favorite his track on soundcloud and throw up a comment to give him some due props if you got an SC account:

Lethal Superbad

I hope this finals week is going just as splendid for everyone else as it is for me, today I got the day off from exams so I found time in my busy schedule to pencil in some time for the love of music. Your welcome:

If you haven't heard of Arty or Mat Zo hopefully this little callabo Mozart makes you a bit ashamed for your ignorance. The music video is cool but I suggest buying the extended edit because you can really enjoy the chord progressions in the longer cut:



There have been a bunch of remixes of Kaskade's single Turn It Down that got released this week but the only one I find worth while is the rework that Le Castle Vania did... no other words than absurd come to mind:



I never though I would be calling Flux Pavillion or Doctor P soulful but I have a tough time describing this new record any other way:



The original mix of Lethal Industry by Tiesto will always have a special place in my heart. I can definitely say that song one of the things that hooked me on electronic music. I was weary when I first heard Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano were reworking the original to have some new synths and whatnot in it. I mean who has the balls to rework a masterpiece? But giving credit where credit is due, I love it. They kept things true to the original while truly showing us where this trance movement is going:



Before I say anything about this next track I want to say I still love the original What Happens in Vegas by Chuckie and Gregor Salto. But now that I've cleared that up this Pierce Fulton remix blows the roof of the original. I see myself playing this remix over Chuckie's production of it when I roll down the Vegas strip. Just such a good feeling to it:

Do Work Son

Exam week is nearing, time to get to business. I don't know about you but I literally am incapable of being productive unless I have some music playing. So if you're like me, you've come to the right place. The blog has been a bit dry the past few days but nothing to fret; I have all that you'll need this week:

Throwing Sharp Things

You guessed it... this has to do with the news that Knife Party will be releasing their new EP "100% No Modern Talking" for free on Monday. Tough not to throw down some good Knife Party and some other heavy hitting electro house records. Another weekend begins, but make sure Knife Party is playing at your part, but I suggest not having a party having to do with the involvement of knifes. Just a thought:

For the love of Knife Party, here are a couple of the songs that will be freely downloadable Monday. Knife Party is clearly in the spirit of the season of giving, except for the somewhat eery and very crazy tune on their EP, Internet Friends:









Tough to follow up that act of songs, but Cazzette's remix of the legendary original by Avicii, Levels is nothing short of legendary itself. That deep synthed sound blows the roof of the original:



Now it would almost seem unfair to post any other artists today with these monstrous tracks out. But Nicky Romero's remix of Haters Gonna Hate has blown my mind. There may actually be some head and neck damage from jamming to this ruthless remix:




Now one would have to accept that would be the end of it for today. But nope, how about some Lady Gaga remixes? Now one might see the as emasculating for me for to put up some Gaga but these remixes are mean and some would even say grizzly:

It's a Chopper Baby

Before you ponder the title I'll just fill you in that it is a Pulp Fiction reference. You know, the part where Bruce Willis's girlfriend asks him who's motorcycle he's riding. Better yet here's the clip and you'll understand why:



Our Canadian friends Zeds Dead have teamed up with Dim Mak Records to give us this joyous electro record just in time for the season of giving, how festive. I don't know what is up with these Canadian artists but they are just killing the EDM game; must be something in the maple syrup. Either way here is their new track Ruckus the Jam. Listen with caution, it may disturb any peaceful thoughts you were once having:



I was tempted to sneak the old "This is Your Brain on Drugs" PSA before I showed you this next track, but I resisted due to the overflow of confusion and ridiculousness it would incite. Nonetheless, check out this fun new song by Alex Sayz called Acid Kills. Yes, acid does kill you, but this song may be just as damaging to your brain:




Now that your mind may have been blown, I'll bring you back to earth with this funky remix by Cassian of How Deep is Your Love? I just love the snare drums and guitar riff samples that seem to go perfectly with the deep bass line, and I have been a huge fan of Rapture vocals. It reminds me of Yeasayer which I think would be a huge compliment to any vocalist:

As the pressure rise for me to create immaculate posts due to the rise of uneducated critics, I feel my blog game has lacked and see tonight as a turning point in the slump. As any artist will tell you, critics can be the greatest sources of inspiration towards success; fire in the belly if you will. And you can't find a better day to put out such a post as some big name artists come out with bigger records. So go ahead and ignore the rest of my writing and just enjoy the good music:

Dada Life finally drops Kick Out the Epic Motherfucker. Two words; f*ck yes:



Bingo Players have released their long awaited track Mode. It doesn't have the Lil' Jon samples like a had previewed earlier but still a tight song:



Avicii goes back to his original name Tim Berg. Maybe revamping his game, and I love it:

Two all nighters later and I am done with that damn term paper. Now back to the writing that is a little more enjoyable: the one that spreads good music.

Dada Life has a new teaser out for their seemingly monstrous banger, Kick Out the Epic Motherfucker. And there is no doubt that this is one epic motherfucker. On a side note, I love how these two guys make their teasers, just messing around in their studio having fun enjoying it for the sake of the music:

On Cue Week 1: Moonlight Matters

As new talented DJ's seem to be sprouting up everywhere while EDM continues to grow into the Jack-and-the-Giant-Beanstalk-esque of a genre amongst mass popularity, I decided it would be proper to put the spotlight and take one rising DJ center stage each week to examine their background, style, influences and of course notable projects of these Artists.

We start this inaugural weekly post with a groovy new artist, Moonlight Matters. If you had to pick one facet of the Belgium artist Sebastiaan Vandevoorde's style that makes him unique and worthwhile to listen to, it would be his repeated use of a loud, in your face, funky slap bass that appears on almost all of his tracks. Hypothetically, if Saturday Night Fever was a chick, and Revenge of the Nerds was a dude, and they had a kid, and that kid decided to be a DJ, they would end up pretty much sounding like our Belgium phenom. Vandevoorde seems to be the heir to the throne that artists like Aeroplane and Digitalism have created in the indie-house sub genre. Moonlight Matters definitely seems to be a name that will be repeatedly praised in the future; but I'll let his records speak for themselves:

The final weeks of the term are nearing. But more importantly, the Christmas season is pretty much here. Not many people more excited than I am to go get a tree and some Christmas cookies. Maybe its just childhood nostalgia. But in any case, the season of giving should include the gift of great tracks. So Happy Holidays and enjoy the electronic variety we got going on today:



Starting off with the easier listening records, Para One & Das Glow are heavily endorsed by renowned DJ A-Trak. So if A-Trak digs it, shits gotta be good. The silky smooth track Pulsar is a great soft electro tune that can put you to ease at the end of a long day:

Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 has returned at last. They fell off the map and what seemed to be off the side of the earth in producing terms. But these guys went back to the studio with a little bit of a new sound. Check it:

Wild for the Night

Week is pretty much done for most of you deliquents. Time to go find the dubra, captains, and busch lights and get after it. However the most important ingredient to a good night is the music. When everyone has got that high energy that comes with freedom from responsibility, the music has to apply. And we've got a shmorgasborg of those records to get you on your feet:


Nothing like a little Dutch House to get you up and moving. Laidback Luke does a wonderful job on the remix of the Dutch duo Avesta & B Valley's track Dutchano. Big room build with a heavy dutch drop. Lethal combo:




Marco V back at it again with this remix of HJM's track, 222. Sample sounds a lot like R3hab and Afrojack's "Wooh!" sample in Prutattaa but whatever, we can give Marco benefit of the doubt. Great bass line, better build:




Alesso release some napalm-esque fire with his new track Raise Your Head. Warning, this song will actually melt your face:




Listening to A-trak's monthly radio cast caught me onto a couple of smaller time goodies, this track Goin In is definitely my favorite. Describes anyone's attitude going out:



Now this remix of How Deep is your Love? by A-trak is a great techno house groove. Very addictive:

What You Know about the West

Got a couple tracks on the heaver side to power you through the week. It's been a dreary, clouding and depressing week so far, sucking any energy anyone could possibly have. Music is always the cure. I mean its wednesday, three day work week is long enough if you ask me. Hopefully these records make you feel the same way:


A little more Koan Sound coming your way. I'm really starting to dig these guys a lot, I'm glad they stray from the overplayed sample filled electro-dubstep. If any electronic track were to be put in an old western, it would have to be Trouble in the West. Clint Eastwood kicking down some saloon doors with revolver in hand:





John Dahlback has released Grunge after teasing it last week and it sure seems like it will get some spotlight. A uniquely deep bass on the build that cuts in and out... kinda sweet:




Feed Me has returned at last. I missed this guy, so much talent. Only a guy like him turn a song like What You Know into an EDM head throbbing jam:

Tuesday Night Grundge

Today has been quite the day between two exams and a presentation it's time to unwind to some deep bass and dirty beats. Tommy Trash, Kasakade, and R3hab with the remedy for electro remixes... per usual. More huge remixes and tracks to be released this week so stay tuned.

Trash giving us what seems to be almost a weekly monster track or remix. Well he's at it again with the remix to Zedd's Shave It. Tommy Trash is calling it The Aftershave which is very fitting for the sound of this track. It's deep, grundgy, rough, and definitely should be played after 5 o'clock:



Speaking of Zedd's big track Shave It, Kaskade has come out with a remix of it today too. It has a similar deep grundgy bass but more of a big room sound to it. Nonetheless still a great remix.



R3hab has also been on a rampage lately pumping out tracks. Remixing Benassi tracks are never easy just on the account that the originals are usually pretty huge. But R3hab definitely conquers this remix of Close to Me:

Procrastination Proclimation

As the books and term papers pile up, I find myself just cranking up the tunes to avoid the looming torture of all nighters. Or as they say in Fubar, "Turn up the good and turn down the suck". The good beats definitely ease the stress of school work... just give it a try for yourself:


New song from Afrojack named Lionheart, does not let us down as electro fans. But then again, when has Afrojack ever let us down?

Un Domingo Perezoso

Today has been a pretty quiet and slow day for both me personally as well as the EDM scene. So to keep things interesting I have a couple old jams as well as a couple cool videos to check out. Bingo Players is becoming my new favorite electro duo, and someone needs to buy me a Reactable... STAT:



Bingo Players have a new song featuring the King of Crunk Lil Jon called Mode. I laughed to myself a little when I saw Lil Jon was in on it. But this song is no joke, the drop is bound to destroy some dance floors. And to add a little extra Bingo Players to your life I'll also threw in a older track Cry Just a Little which has some of the best use of samples to date:








Madeon and Porter Robinson did a gig at The Webster for halloween last weekend and from reading reviews it sounded like the two teenagers tore the place down. Here are a couple of tracks these two electro prodigies played during their sets:

Earful of a Weekend

Franz Novotny is one of those up and coming deep electro artist that right now is pumping out tracks like he works in a beat factory rather than a studio. Crunch is his newest product and it sure is chunky:

Una Vista Nueva

Next semester I'm am taking a big leap and going across the pond for a semester abroad in Barcelona. So as I begin to adjust to the Spanish and European lifestyle I figured my blog should too. The new look and title don't mean necesarrily a new type of blog (though there will be a heavier emphasis on real house music than before). Dada Life has finally released their remix of Big Bad Wolf. Thank god because quite frankly the original doesn't really impress me. This remix definitely gives energy to the track it was originally missing:

A new tech-house remix from Rockwell digs up a blast from the past track in Alicia Keys' Fallin. Who would have thought this song would have ever become relevent again? It's really rewarding to hear once again DJ's focusing on remixing songs the include some older but really amazing vocals such as those of Alicia Keys:




Koan Sound got a little publicity on Rolling Stones last week which was well deserved for the duo. Under Skrillex's OSWLA, these guys have dropped this crazy fun track Funk Blaster. The title describes the song perfectly:

Whomp Wednesday Vol. 5

I guarantee some headaches and whiplash for this week's wobble bass day. Been saving up a few monstrous tracks all week and it has taken every ounce of energy within me not to post some of these dubstep future-anthems. But now the fury can be unleashed... so watch yourself:

The collaboration between Skrillex and The Doors has been long awaited but is now open to the public for extensive whomping. Never thought such a collaboration was possible but once again I am proved wrong with this new track, Breaking a Sweat:



Delta Heavy is coming on the drum&bass scene pretty rapidly and this new track Overkill is putting them in the right direction towards dubstep stardom:




This High Rankin' remix of 501's Somewhere in Time is about a year old but I was reminded of it during The Crystal Method's "Community Service" radio cast on Electric Area the other week. Its a classic and definitely worth digging up out of the older files:




I know halloween has come and gone but this Figure track Werewolf is still very very appropriate, and another track worth replaying... a spooky good song:

Teasing Tuesday

Today marks the beginning of a new month and so I decided I ought pay tribute to the upcoming tracks that will be huge upon release this month. Some of these teasers we all know will be huge simply because of the big name artists behind them, but a couple may surprise you. So keep your robot ears open and enjoy:


Don't Let the System Control You by Reset! is a fun deep electro song that I think will be big in clubs all around North America if everything is right in the EDM world. I'm hooked on this teaser and I'm sure the actual song with be even more addictive:

Tommy Trash is just refusing to go into the shadows as of late. He is demanding the respect of the entire EDM scene as one of the premiere dj's with his killer new tracks as well as remixes, and I've already teased you with Ohrwurm which comes out this month. But he also is dropping a remix of Zedd's single Shave It as well as a new original track Monkey See Monkey Do. I'm waiting for the day when this guy makes a metiocre track... that day may never come:

R3hab has been destroying some remixes lately of big name tracks that few believed could be successfully remixed. Many dj's are wary of remixing monster tracks because they are so good to begin with that it's challenging to make it any better. R3hab however has blown over tracks such as Calvin Harris's Bounce or his collaborative remix with Swanky Tunes of Tiesto's Maximal Crazy. Well he's at it again jumping on Sebastion Ingrosso & Alesso's track Calling. Here's a recent live RIP of the track, I wish I was in So-Cal  to hear this song in person:







*** I realize it's pretty cruel to give a bunch of teasers without the satisfaction of a full track to jam to. So to ease the distress these teasers cause here is a new release by Adam K & BT called Tomohawk. It's a great trance-electro hybrid, but if you're too impatient to enjoy the build of trance, go to the 3:10 mark where the song drops, you won't be dissapointed:
